We met this family through a mutual friend and at the time of our initial connection, our calendar for 2013 was almost completely booked. We were so bummed when we learned that we likely wouldn't have a date available for these guys before the end of the year. Just in time, we had a cancellation that allowed us to meet, shoot for, and fall completely in love with this family. Wanna know why? Because they wanted what we wanted: timeless photos of them being them. Hanging out, playing and loving one another as a family. This friends, is how you do it.

Any time the phone rings and the person on the other end says, "We just want you guys to come over and shoot our family in our home, just being ourselves" we wish there was a way to reach through the phone and hug them. We love that our friends and clients value their day-to-day interaction with the ones that they love the most. I mean, what's the point in taking photos of your family if they aren't "REAL"? This family is 100% real, and 100% awesome.

We are very fortunate that many of our clients friends are clients that have been with us from the very beginning of this journey. The Kane Family is just that. Each and every year, right around Halloween, we get an email from Kelly and the subject line is always the same, “It’s that time of year!!!”. Having the opportunity to see this family grow, right before our eyes is a pretty amazing thing and we are in love with the love-fest that occurs every year when we see them.

It’s always an honor when someone from the wedding and/or photography industry asks us to photograph them. This was a double-whammy-honor. Garrett is an incredibly talented wedding and portrait photographer and Sara is the creative mind behind Black Lotus Design. We consider them to be the creme-de-la-creme of creative individuals living and working in San Diego. They combined forces to make one uber-creative spawn, Finn, who likes everything from ant-candy to unicorn masks. More on that later. We feel truly lucky to know this family. Here are a few images from our day with them in Joshua Tree.

Here’s the thing about Nicole and Matt. They love to party. Know what else? We love to party too. That would probably explain why this family session was followed immediately by cold beers and delicious wine at their house in La Jolla. It’s always a “plus” when we get bonus time after a shoot to connect with such awesome people.
