Sailor superstition tells us that renaming your boat will bring nothing but bad luck and make your boating experience something that you will want to forget. But when we found "the boat" that would eventually become "our boat", we already had a name that we had picked out to honor our two favorite people: Ellie AKA Silly Goose (Goose) and Bailey AKA Bay Man (Bay). Hence the name, Goose Bay. According to legend, every vessel is recorded by name in the Ledger of the Deep and is known personally to Poseidon, or Neptune, the god of the sea. Because we wanted to change the name of our boat from its previous name (Island Spirit), the first thing we had to do is to purge its name from the Ledger of the Deep and from Poseidon’s memory. We did so by ceremonially purging its name. We then went on to renaming it by appeasing the gods of the sea and the wind by pouring a "generous libation" of champagne into a champagne flute and flinging it to the North, South, East and West as we paid homage and respect to each of the gods. Thanks to everyone that came out to help us celebrate this special day in our lives.

Big thanks to Sign Diego signdiego.com for helping us with this amazing vinyl decal for the boat name. Turned out amazing!

For those of you that have asked recently about what we've been up to, here's the gist: we bought a sailboat! If there is one thing to know about April and nothing else, it is that she was raised on the water, spending almost every summer aboard the family sailboat at Cherry Cove on Catalina Island and those times are some of the best in her life. Since I have know her, it has been her dream to have a family sailboat to share the joy of life on the water with her own littles. The search began many months ago and after many false starts with boats that we thought were "the one" but turned out not to be, we found this beautifully equipped Catalina 30 that we plan to name, "Goose Bay" after our favorite two people, Ellie (Goose) and Bailey (Bay). More on this later. We look forward to sharing many more adventures with you aboard Goose Bay in the years to come. Here's a recap of our first summer with the newest addition to our family. Welcome aboard!

As you may have noticed, our blog postings suddenly slowed down toward the end of the year in 2013 and remained slow (stagnant) for the first few months of the new year. In addition to moving into the first house we've ever owned together as a family, we also brought a very special new person into this world. Bailey Joseph Bertocchini was born on December 9, 2013 right around 4 pm. Weighing 7 lbs 3 oz, this little guy has brought us even more joy than we could have ever anticipated. He is  just over 3 months old now and has "grown like a weed" as the old people say. He is full of smiles and joy and we love him with everything that we are. In addition to having all the love he can handle from his two parents, he has also been warmly welcomed into this world by his big sister Tiny E. We are so proud of our little girl for being such a loving, proud big sis. Here are a few snipits from 24 hours that changed our lives forever. We love you Bailey.
